Mr. McDermott has written a tale that runs through time gathering one complex character after another. Some die only to be born again in another time and some remain unchanged over centuries. All these characters are drawn together, over and over. A shared event has cast their fate into a repeating loop that no one seems to be able to escape.
I could explain the plot in further detail, but my meager skills would not be able to do it justice. Let me just say that the plot is complex and has many interwoven stories, but they move quickly and are so fascinating that the time flies and you find yourself caught between rushing to see how everything ends and slowing down because you don't want the book to be over.
I think maybe the vampire better watch his back, because Thomas McDermott has created a new immortal. They may not have fangs or drink blood, but they are powerful creatures and they have the ability to seduce. Plus they they don't have that pesky burning up in the sun thing.
The best part of all...there is going to be a sequel.
